Carroll County Record Restriction

For specific cases in Carroll County, you may be eligible to restrict your criminal record from public view. Restricting criminal arrest records for non-criminal justice purposes might help you get a job or housing and a clean start.

Record Restriction Event

On Thursday, October 19, 2023 Carroll County Record Restriction Partners will be hosting a Record Restriction Event at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church located at 120 North Park St. Carrollton, GA.

Restricting access to arrest records and sealing the clerk's files can help you get a job or housing, and a clean start!

If you have had a case handled by the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office or the Carroll County Solicitor's Office, you may be eligible to restrict and seal the criminal histroy through this event. The event will assist with criminal history resolved by the following courts and counties:
- Carroll County State & Superior Court
- Coweta County Superior Court
- Heard County Superior Court
- Meriwether County Superior Court
- Troup County Superior Court

If you have criminal history outside of these courts/counties, the event will also provide resources to help you take the next step to clear your record.

Along with Record Restriction, there may be multiple community partners present for participants to speak with including:

Resume Reviewers
Other community service providers

Register today! Registration for the event is required - the first 75 applicants will have their record reviewed by an attorney for restriction and sealing eligibility and some history will be cleared through the event.

What is Record Restriction?

“In Georgia, record restriction (expungement) and sealing means that eligible records on your official criminal history report are restricted from public view but remain accessible to law enforcement for criminal justice purposes.

Record restriction helps individuals gain better employment, join the military, enroll in schools, and obtain housing. Society also benefits through public revenue, reduced recidivism, and improved public safety. We are hosting a free record restriction clinic to inform rural Georgia residents what charges may be eligible for record restriction under existing Georgia law. Additional information will be provided about how individuals can possibly receive legal assistance.

Who Is Eligible For Record Restriction In Carroll County?

There are a few conditions for record restriction, including any of the following:

Most non-convictions and certain convictions can be restricted and sealed from your record. For more information about what can be cleared from a Georgia record, please look here.
Arrest took place in Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether, or Troup Counties (see note above about the courts served.)

Having a record restriction can help you regain normalcy in your life. Some of the benefits include:

Finding employment – Employers often run background checks, so requesting a record restriction helps people to find and apply for jobs. Federal agencies and law enforcement will still be able to see these records, however.
Finding housing – Most landlords will require a background check and can deny housing if the background check finds a criminal history.
Being able to apply for college – Having a juvenile criminal record could impact your ability to attend further education, so many young people make record restriction requests to prevent admissions from seeing their records.
